The Caserta State Police identified 14 fans involved in riots during the Casertana - Foggia football match, which took place on December 4, 2023 at the "A. Pinto" Stadium in Caserta, in the context of the Lega Pro national championship.
After an investigation by the DIGOS of the Police Headquarters of Caserta, Police Chief Andrea Grassi issued for them the preventive measure of a ban on access to venues of sporting events, known as Daspo. Overall, the 14 fans identified have received a ban on entry to Italian stadiums for a total of 56 years.
Two of them, repeat offenders as they had already received the same measure in the past, were also subjected to the obligation to sign in before and after their team's football matches.
During the match, some of the two sets of fans displayed behavior that was dangerous for public order, especially during the interval between the first and second half, which caused a delay of over forty minutes to the match.
Among the acts committed by the fans involved are the use of smoke bombs and firecrackers, the illegal introduction of these objects into the stadium by evading the stewards' controls, as well as the mutual throwing of stones and other objects that damaged part of the stadium structure.
Six police officers were injured in the clashes
In addition, some of the home fans attempted to enter the away fans' section, causing further disturbances. The investigations identified eight home fans and six away fans, responsible for various crimes related to the clashes that occurred during the match.
Six police officers were injured during the clashes, while fortunately there were no injuries among the spectators present at the stadium.
