The legendary figure of Colapesce, a source of fascination for the famous philosopher Benedetto Croce, comes to life during the cultural event of Maggio dei Monumenti.
On May 19th, Palazzo Filomarino will open to visits and interpretative readings with Andrea Renzi, immersing participants in a journey between myth and history.
An Immersion in Neapolitan Culture
Marta Herling, secretary general of the Italian Institute for Historical Studies, highlights the intention to merge the theme of the event – 'Water' – with the vitality of the element in the culture of Naples. Through the story of Niccolò Pesce, better known as Colapesce, the program of Maggio dei Monumenti intends to guide visitors through the Palazzo Filomarino, once home to Croce and now home to the Fondazione “Biblioteca Benedetto Croce”.
The Passion of Croce and the Legend of Colapesce
The legend of this boy submerged by the sea inspired Croce to the point of having a copy of a bas-relief from the classical era made and placed in his home. Today, the original of this artifice is on display at the Museum of San Martino. In his work “Storie e leggendane napoletane”, Croce often imagined himself following the spirit of exploration of Colapesce who investigated the depths of the sea.
A Day of Culture and Discovery
The event, which will be held from 10,30:13,30 to XNUMX:XNUMX, in collaboration with Casa del Contemporaneo/Le Nuvole, involves the formation of two visiting groups. Expert art historians will accompany participants through the architectural memories of Via Benedetto Croce and the book collections held by the Institute. The highlight of the event will be a reading performance by Andrea Renzi. Participation is free but a reservation is required to guarantee a place.
A Journey Between Myth and Reality
This day represents a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich history and legends of Naples, reliving the stories through art and literature, in an atmosphere that only the city of Naples can offer. The initiative fits perfectly into the Neapolitan cultural fabric, offering an educational experience enriched by the presence of expert guides and evocative performances. With free admission, the event promises to be a splendid celebration of history, culture and art under the spell of the legend of Colapesce.
