A sea of white balloons filled the horizon, along with heart-shaped, pink, and blue balloons.
Not only children and young people, but the entire community of Saviano, in the province of Naples, gathered around the pain of the Zotto family, struck by the tragedy of the explosion of their home caused by a gas leak.
Four members of a family of six lost their lives in the explosion: Vincenza Spadafora, 41, her two children aged 6 and 4, and her paternal grandmother, Autilia Ambrosino, 79, who lived on the second floor.
The father, Antonio Zotto, 40 years old, and his third son, 2 years old, were injured and are currently hospitalized at the Cardarelli and Santobono hospitals in Naples respectively.
This afternoon, in the cathedral, the bishop of Nola, Monsignor Franco Marino, celebrated the funeral. The mayor of Saviano, Vincenzo Simonelli, proclaimed a day of mourning. Also present in the crowded church were the mayor of Naples and the prefect Michele Di Bari, representing the government.
“The institutions have become the protagonists of an embrace, of an inspiration to this family, to this community”. This was said by the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, who today in Saviano took part in the funeral rite of the four victims of the collapse of the building, speaking on behalf of the Government.
“Today we wish a speedy recovery to the two people who are hospitalized,” he added, believing that the institutions will not fail to accompany these people along a path “which is of pain and suffering but also of hope.”
Metropolitan Mayor Gaetano Manfredi attended the funerals of the four victims of the collapse on Sunday, September 22. Also present at the funerals was Metropolitan Councilor Giuseppe Bencivenga, Mayor of Frattaminore, alongside other mayors of the area and the gonfalon, with a mourning band, of the Metropolitan City of Naples.
