The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, expressed his opinion on the security emergency in the city, speaking on the sidelines of the Hippocratic Oath ceremony held in Città della Scienza. Manfredi noted that law enforcement often does not have a sufficient number of agents active during the night hours.
“This problem also concerns the municipal police, which cannot operate beyond certain hours due to regulatory constraints. According to the mayor, the regulatory system needs to be revised, as discussed with the Minister of the Interior and the prefect, to allow for a greater presence of resources on the streets, especially at night.
In addition to playing a garrison role on the territory, they would act as a deterrent in a situation that cannot be managed with repression alone.
The police often do not have a sufficient number of men operating at night. This is a problem that we also have because the regulatory constraints, for example, beyond a certain time, prevent us from being able to use the municipal police.
I believe that this entire regulatory system needs to be reviewed, and we also talked about it with the Minister of the Interior and the prefect, to allow more resources on the streets, especially at night, because these help to control the territory and are a deterrent also with respect to a phenomenon that cannot be managed only with repression, but certainly the territory needs to be controlled”.
