A future of renewal for Italian sport, from stadiums to the management of television rights. This is what the Minister for Sport and Youth promised Andrea Abodi, who spoke during the event “Sports Industry Talk” organized by RCS at the MAXXI in Rome. Abodi announced the imminent availability of new financial instruments to accelerate the improvement of sports infrastructure in Italy, thanks to the collaboration with the Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, Sport and Health andInstitute for Sports Credit. “It will not only concern the stadiums, we are working on 9 dossiers and the results will be evident soon”, he has declared.
The minister made an appeal to Serie A League so that it adopts a more industrial and innovative approach. “I invited the League to take on an industrial dimension and to be courageous”, he stressed, referring to the need to modernize the sector to compete with the major international championships.
One of the central themes addressed was the reform of the Melandri Law, which regulates the management and distribution of football television rights. “The law will be re-proposed and rewritten, because the world of technology and content has changed profoundly”, Abodi explained, adding that the relationship model between content producers and the public must evolve towards disintermediation: “The content owner must get as close as possible to the end customer, enhancing the heritage of Italian football in the world, which is too sacrificed today”.
Speaking about the Serie A League, Abode criticized the inertia that followed the failed deal with investment funds, calling it “a defeat”. “Three years ago we thought about that hypothesis, but after the 'no' nothing was done. Now is the time to run, knowing however which direction to go”.
