Avellino.Massive pile-up along the Ofantina yesterday afternoon: five cars involved and eleven injured, fortunately no one in serious condition. The accident occurred between Montella and Volturara Irpina, in the direction of Avellino at kilometer 352, around 16:30.
The event caused heavy traffic disruption in both directions, on a day of heavy traffic due to the Chestnut Festival in Montella, which attracted thousands of visitors from outside the region.
Several ambulances intervened at the scene of the accident to provide assistance to the injured, some of whom were treated on site. Two people needed to be transported to the hospital in Oliveto Citra (Salerno) for further treatment.
Traffic slowed down significantly and was diverted onto internal roads. The Avellino Highway Police officers and the Carabinieri from the Avellino stations intervened on site. Montella and Volturara Irpina.
