Burned Alive in Frattamaggiore, Life Sentence for Pasquale Pezzella

Fu cosparso di benzina e fu dato alle fiamme mentre faceva la videochiamata con la fidanzata. Le fiamme gli provocarono ustioni di terzo e quarto grado su gran parte del corpo, dieci mesi di agonia, poi la morte. Per quell’omicidio i giudici della terza sezione della Corte d’Assise di Napoli hanno condannato all’ergastolo Pasquale Pezzella.

It was Liguori himself who whispered the name “Pasquale” to the family, to whom he had dragged himself before losing consciousness. Pezzella was arrested four days after the episode and taken to prison in Poggioreale. While he was in the hospital, the victim's family received a phone call from Claudio Pezzella, father of the murderer.

The man considered a prominent figure in local Camorra organizations and brother of a life-sentenced boss, allegedly called Liguori's home. According to the story provided by Biagio Liguori, brother of the young man still hospitalized in serious conditions, he told investigators that Pezzella's father, after asking not to notify the police, also offered money for treatment.

Pezzella's lawyers have announced an appeal

In court, Pasquale Pezzella has always denied any responsibility. His lawyers, Fernando Pellino and Marcella Monaco, have announced an appeal, arguing that Liguori – in any case – had recovered from the burns and that his death occurred months later for reasons independent of what happened that night in Frattamaggiore.
