Campania continues to show significant delays compared to the national average in the provision of healthcare personnel.
The data released today by the Gimbe Foundation highlight a critical situation that could have repercussions on the services offered to citizens. In 2022, the region had just 8,5 units of National Health Service (NHS) employees per 1.000 inhabitants, a figure significantly lower than the Italian average of 11,6 units per 1.000 inhabitants.Per capita spending on healthcare personnel in Campania in 2023 is also significantly lower than in the rest of the country: 559 euros against a national average of 672 euros. This gap demonstrates a disparity in resources allocated to the sector and could explain the operational and organizational difficulties encountered in the regional health system.
Despite these shortcomings, the Campania presents an apparently contradictory fact: the average expenditure for each employee of the NHS in 2022 was 65.437 euros, a figure higher than the national average of 57.140 €. This discrepancy may be related to higher costs related to salaries or other ancillary expenses, but it highlights a structural problem in the management of human resources in the healthcare sector.

It is strange that despite Campania having a very low number of health personnel, the average expenditure per employee is higher than the national average. Perhaps there are problems in the management of resources and in political choices.
