Officers from the Soccavo operational unit of the local police recently conducted checks on several commercial activities that use outdoor spaces for the display of food products.

Seizure of goods and sanctions
The goods, for a total of about 5 quintals, were seized. During the same operation, 11 vehicles were fined for illegal parking, of which 2 were towed.
The checks were also extended to Viale Traiano and Via Nerva, where three fruit and vegetable sales businesses that were operating illegally were fined. Food exposed to the elements was seized and, in part, donated to the Naples Zoo, while those unfit for consumption were destroyed.
Illegal waste management
In another operation, personnel from the environmental protection unit reported a man to the judicial authorities for illegal waste management. The individual, using an uninsured Piaggio Ape van, illegally collected waste such as plastic, polystyrene and wood, temporarily storing it in a garage located on via Ernesto Rossi, in Scampia.
After selecting the recyclable materials, the man abandoned the rest of the waste in the streets of various neighborhoods in the northern outskirts of the city. The local police seized both the three-wheeler and the storage room; investigations to identify any accomplices are currently underway.
The motorcycle officers of the territorial intervention group carried out checks in via Giulio Cesare, in Fuorigrotta, and in via Fratelli Cervi, in the Monterosa district, in collaboration with the personnel of the Scampia operational unit and with the local police station and carabinieri. In total, 75 vehicles were checked, detecting 33 violations of the Highway Code.
Five vehicles were found to be uninsured, while four people were caught driving without a license and one was caught driving a vehicle without the necessary requirements. In addition, a driver was reported for repeated driving without a license and another person was reported to the police station for violating a ban on being with other criminals.

The officers of the Vomero operational unit, together with the Abandoned Vehicles unit, then operated in the Vomero and Arenella neighborhoods, collecting 9 abandoned vehicles and removing as many cars for illegal parking. One vehicle was seized for lack of insurance, in addition to which there were 5 other violations of the Highway Code contested.

It is important that the police check on traders who do not respect the laws, but I wonder if the sanctions are really effective. Maybe we should also educate the sellers about food safety and respecting the rules.
