Rome – A young life cut short in a tragic road accident. Around 1:00 a.m. today, on Via Laurentina, in the southern quadrant of the Capital, nineteen-year-old Daniela Gambardella, originally from Salerno, was hit by a car while crossing the street in front of the shopping center where she worked.

At the wheel of the vehicle, which was proceeding towards the city centre, was a 72-year-old pensioner. The man immediately stopped to provide assistance. The intervention of the fire brigade was necessary to extract the young woman, who was subsequently entrusted to the 118 personnel. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for Daniela.
The Local Police has started an investigation to reconstruct precisely the dynamics of theaccident. The car was impounded. Officers are trying to determine if the victim was crossing the crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Daniela was found a few meters from the traffic-lighted pedestrian crossing, suggesting that she may have been dragged by the vehicle. Checks are underway on the functioning of the traffic light to determine which of the two may have ignored the red light.
The IX Eur Group of the Local Police is collecting testimonies and will analyze the images from the surveillance cameras. They are also investigating the speed at which the car was traveling.
