The European Traffic Police Network “ROADPOL” has planned, in the period 8-14 February 2021, the implementation of the European Joint Operation called “Truck & Bus”, in which the Naples Traffic Police Section has joined, fielding the sectional patrols, those of the Naples North and Fuorigrotta Subsections and those of the Nola and Sorrento Detachments.
“ROADPOL” is a cooperation network between traffic police forces, born in 1996 under the aegis of the European Union, to which all member countries adhere today, except Greece and Slovakia, as well as Switzerland, Serbia, Turkey and as an observer the Dubai Police (United Arab Emirates). Italy is represented by the Traffic Police Service of the Ministry of the Interior. The Organization develops operational cooperation between European traffic police forces, with the aim of reducing the number of road victims and road accidents in compliance with the European Action Plan 2021-2030.
This activity is articulated through joint international operations to counter violations and “thematic” campaigns throughout the continent, within specific strategic areas.
The ultimate goal is to raise road safety standards by harmonizing prevention, information and control activities, also through communication campaigns and joint operations, the results of which are then monitored by the “ROADPOL Operational Group”.
The aim of the “Truck & Bus” campaign is to intensify the checks carried out by the Traffic Police throughout Europe on heavy goods vehicles, buses and vehicles intended for the transport of dangerous goods, both nationally and foreignly registered. During the days of checks, the Highway Patrol officers checked the psychophysical state of the drivers, compliance with speed limits, compliance with the ADR regulations on the transport of dangerous goods and all other provisions on road transport provided for by national and EU legislation.
This action, combined at European level, aims to develop awareness and consciousness among all drivers and road users that at the same time all the traffic police forces of the European Union are operating with the same methods, homogeneous tools and a common goal.
To this end, the Naples Highway Police has arranged for targeted checks to be carried out on heavy goods vehicles and buses throughout the entire provincial territory, particularly on the inter-provincial main roads, for the entire period in question and for 24 hours. A total of 150 patrols were deployed over the 24 hours, checking a total of 472 vehicles, of which 451 were national and 20 were foreign vehicles for specific transport. A total of 165 heavy goods vehicles were fined for speed limit violations (9), driving under the influence of alcohol (1), failure to use restraint systems (12), failure to respect driving and break times (18), overloading (29). Furthermore, 21 buses were checked, 20 of which were national and 1 foreign, and 10 were fined for speed limit violations (2), failure to use restraint systems (2), failure to respect driving and break times (2) and 4 for document irregularities.
At the same time, 3 administrative detentions were applied, 5 driving licences were withdrawn and a total of over 500 points were deducted, for a total of approximately 20 thousand euros as proceeds from the contravention activity.
