“Help, run, my son is dead”: she desperately called 118 and the police, then attempted suicide and said she had killed him.
These are the tragic sequences of what happened this morning in an apartment on Via degli Ostaggi in Ferrara, where shortly after 6 the Carabinieri arrived and found a lifeless one-year-old child and his mother - a 29-year-old woman from Ferrara - with her wrists cut and in an obvious state of shock. The 118 doctors also arrived on the scene and tried for about 45 minutes to revive the child, but there was nothing they could do.
In the house with the woman there were also her other two children aged five to nine., absent the father - a 30 year old of Tunisian origin but resident in Ferrara for years - who, according to what was ascertained, had not lived with his wife for some weeks. And it was precisely to her husband and his mother that the woman sent some dramatic messages: "I need help, hurry".
When the Carabinieri of the Operations Unit of the Provincial Command of Ferrara, led by Colonel Mauro Maronesi, intervened in the apartment, the woman was in a state of shock in the middle of a pool of blood. A police patrol also arrived on the scene and the 29-year-old was taken to the Di Cona hospital in Ferrara and transferred to the psychiatric ward.
The woman said she cut her wrists because she wanted to die and attacked the soldiers.
At the moment the woman is not under investigation, the Prosecutor's Office could order an autopsy and notify both parents to allow them to appoint an expert and subsequently, following the outcome of the first tests of the technical investigations, evaluate any hypotheses of accusation against the child's mother.
According to investigative sources, he confessed to killing the child, but the reliability of his version is still being examined by investigators. From the external examination carried out by the coroner, no lesions or wounds compatible with a violent death emerged on the child's body.
The PM of the Ferrara Prosecutor's Office, Tiziana Busato, has ordered an autopsy to clarify the causes of the little boy's death, no hypothesis has been excluded, from homicide to tragic fatality or death caused by negligence by the mother, whose mental conditions did not appear good.
When help arrived, the child was in his mother's bedroom, while his siblings were apparently in another room.
The children were entrusted to the care of their grandmother. In the house on Via degli Ostaggi, the technical surveys of the Carabinieri of the scientific police continued throughout the morning. The apartment appeared seriously degraded and it is being verified whether the family nucleus was already being followed by Social Services.

The woman's husband was questioned by investigators in search of useful details to clarify what happened this morning, other witnesses will also be questioned, including the neighbors - some of them apparently heard strange noises in the night - while waiting for the autopsy to clarify the causes of the little boy's death.
At the moment no legal measures have been issued against the mother, while waiting for her situation to be clarified, she is admitted to the hospital's psychiatric ward under close observation to prevent her from repeating self-harming gestures. Only later will she be heard by the magistrate who, with the Ferrara carabinieri, is reconstructing what happened this morning.

At the moment she is not under investigation, but the Ferrara Prosecutor's Office is waiting for the documents and will predictably hypothesize a crime, a necessary act in order to order the autopsy. There is the story of a neighbor, who told the Nuova Ferrara online that she heard sharp knocks during the night, which woke her up. But, before committing themselves, the investigators intend to carry out all the checks.
