Massimo Troisi, 27 years after his death. The Vesuvius Cinematographic Observatory creates a short film dedicated to the unforgettable actor
Dear fellow citizens, today marks the sad anniversary of the death of the great Massimo Troisi. Our beloved fellow citizen, actor and man of immense humanity, passed away 27 years ago as the last scenes of Il Postino ended and since then his memory has been extremely alive in our city, as in all those who loved him.
This year, to remember his greatness, the administration led by Mayor Giorgio Zinno, in agreement with the Councilor for Culture Pietro De Martino, supported a project developed by the Vesuvius Cinematographic Observatory which created an unusual short film dedicated to Massimo Troisi.
Professor Giuseppina Scognamiglio, lecturer at the Federico II University of Naples; the director Pasquale Cangiano and the members of the Observatory asked themselves:
“What would Massimo do today if he could return to San Giorgio a Cremano? How would he react seeing everything that the city has dedicated to him?” And again: “What would he feel returning to the places where he grew up and where his career as a unique and inimitable artist began?”.
The short film tries to answer all these questions and it is Massimo Troisi himself who does it, returning to the city, observes and tells, through the voices of three women, his fellow citizens, the emotions he feels when seeing the places, the open-air museum and the Award dedicated to him.

“A tribute that we wanted to dedicate to him on this special day – said Mayor Giorgio Zinno – in which we react to the sadness of his passing with the living memory of someone who was an actor, director, poet and above all a man of great sensitivity. Today, many people are thinking of him, from his colleagues to his fellow citizens who appreciate not only his talent as an actor and director, but also his kindness, reserve and everyday genius”.

"Massimo fully embodies our city identity - adds Pietro De Martino - and has always contributed to creating a strong sense of belonging to our territory. The Vesuvius Film Observatory project also embodies this aspect and the collaboration with the administration is an added value for lovers not only of Massimo but of our cinema".
