De Luca says no to distance learning and invites students to get vaccinated to return to normality
A clear invitation to young people to get vaccinated, and to families to push them towards the administration of the dose, in order to be able to resume school normally.
This is the meaning of the appeal launched by the governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, who today analyzed the situation of school-age boys and girls from Campania who are among the most reluctant citizens of the Region at the idea of being vaccinated against Covid-19.
The governor called a meeting today on this with the general directors of the ASL and with the members of the Crisis Unit of the Region. The starting point was the balance of those vaccinated so far from 12 to 19 years old, which are 220.000, less than 50% of the population of Campania in that age group, given that 290.000 did not appear in the online form to sign up for the dose.

De Luca starts from the idea of not wanting distance learning, but he knows the conditions to succeed: "We believe it is essential - he says - for this year to avoid distance learning in schools in Campania. To achieve this goal, it is essential to develop a targeted vaccination campaign for the group of young people between 12 and 19 years old.
It is clear that failure to reach the 70% immunization threshold would force school management to maintain a double regime: vaccinated students in person, and distance learning for those who are not vaccinated. We sincerely hope this possibility is averted. We will do everything to have only in-person teaching”.
Clear figures on which the governor in the meeting urged all the managers of the Campania ASL to put pressure on ASL, pediatricians, families to be able to reach 70% of students in that age group, reaching a herd immunity that would allow the elimination of distance learning. In the meeting, the strong commitment of teachers was also remembered, who are 95% immunized, giving Campania the national primacy in the category 'behind the chair'.
The meeting also raised the hypothesis that some young people do not want to get vaccinated before leaving for vacation but that upon returning from vacation they will be ready to show up at vaccination centers, perhaps causing the numbers to rise rapidly at the end of August. Otherwise, fate will be inevitable in September at the check-up of vaccinated people: below 70%, the unvaccinated will be left in distance learning and school will be held in person only with those who have received the doses.
