Napoli. "To the CARDARELLI, after the transfer of patients to other hospital facilities in the hilly area and the closure of one of the two Covid wards with the use of available places for the hospitalization of patients in the Emergency Room - Short Intensive Observation, it seems that the situation has improved, even if between 70 and 80 patients continue to persist on stretchers waiting for hospitalization in the emergency critical area”.
This is what we read in a note from the Fp Cgil metropolitan area of Naples. "It is necessary at this point - states the Fp - that the strategic management of the company takes charge of ascertaining internal responsibilities regarding organizational and management deficiencies and takes the consequent measures.
The main criticality of all the Emergency Departments in the metropolitan area of Naples, in addition to the high number of admissions and the lack of staffing of the department and management, is represented by the so-called 'boarding', that is, the prolonged stay of patients on stretchers waiting for hospitalization with consequent overcrowding, caused by the inability of the departments to accommodate patients due to the lack of available beds".
According to the Fp Cgil of Naples "this phenomenon is the result of the progressive and constant reduction, over the last two decades, of hospital beds, but also of the internal organization of hospitals that continues to consider the critical emergency area, including the Emergency Room and Obi, as a body separate from the rest of the hospital".
The Fp Cgil asks to "address the very serious situation of the health emergency area to arrive at rapid solutions, which immediately plug the critical issues, and in the medium and long term are capable of radically re-establishing the health emergency system" and reiterates that "it will not accept any cultural retreat regarding the model of Medicine and Surgery of acceptance and urgency, which remains valid and the only reference to guarantee the best assistance in emergency-urgency".
Furthermore, the Fp Cgil asks that “every effort be made and every initiative be put in place to reverse the exodus of doctors from the Ps-Obi, who are not just a number in the shift box, but perform a highly specialized function that can hardly be replaced” and that “an intervention be made on the internal organization to respond to the discomfort of social health workers, nurses and doctors who provide their services in the critical emergency area, this in order to improve working conditions, preventing work-related stress as per the law”.
