CasertaThe demolition work on the building in Via Vico, on the corner of Piazza Correra, which following a technical inspection by the fire brigade had been found to be unsafe, will end on Saturday.
The demolition of the building will be followed by the reopening of the road to vehicular traffic and the reconstruction of a new building. The square, instead, will be the subject of works to install a video surveillance system.
«We have worked intensely in recent months to make the demolition of the unsafe building effective – commented Emiliano Casale, deputy mayor of the city of Caserta with responsibility for Night and Traffic – The matter has been a long one also because we have encountered numerous bureaucratic obstacles that we have only now managed to overcome.
The good news is that finally on Saturday Piazza Correra will return to life as before, if not even better. The demolition work on the building began on Monday and will end on Saturday with the removal of debris and the reopening of the road. This morning I was on site to check the status of the work and make sure of the technical timescales. But it doesn't end there.
Thanks also to the interest of the councilor Massimiliano Marzo, as an Administration we have already planned the installation of a cutting-edge video surveillance system. Let us not forget, in fact, the sad story of the death of Gennaro Leone.
But if that story has taught us anything - concluded Emiliano Casale - it is that we must demand respect for the rules and concretely commit ourselves with all the means at our disposal to ensure that the frequenters of the Caserta nightlife feel like they are in a safe city, ready to welcome them for healthy fun".
