The Rome court has sentenced Neapolitan entrepreneur Alfredo Romeo to 2 years and six months in prison, accused of corruption in one of the strands of the major investigation into the case CONSIP.
This is the part of the proceeding that also involved the former manager of the single purchasing center of the PA, Marco Gasparri. The latter accused the entrepreneur of having received from him, from 2012 to 2016, a total of 100 thousand euros in exchange for information and help relating to tender notices in Consip.
The judges excluded the liability of the Romeo Gestione company. A provisional sum of 150 thousand euros was ordered for Consip. “Although the original accusation has been significantly scaled down, it is clear that we are not satisfied.
We remain convinced of our client's innocence. Now we are waiting to read the reasons for appealing this sentence. We express satisfaction instead for the acquittal of the Romeo Gestioni company", comments Romeo's defender, Giandomenico Caiazza.
The charge has changed from corruption for an act contrary to the duties of office to corruption for the exercise of the function. The judges also ordered a compensation in favor of Cittadinanza Attiva of 10 thousand euros and a confiscation of 100 thousand euros. Romeo was also banned for one year from dealing with the public administration. For this affair, in September 2017, Gasparri pleaded guilty to a sentence of one year and 8 months in prison for the charge of corruption.
“Romeo Gestioni spa takes note with extreme satisfaction of the ruling issued today by the Criminal Panel of the Court of Rome, chaired by Dr. Roja, with which, at the close of the Consip proceedings, initiated in 2017, the company was completely acquitted of any accusation because, as expressly clarified by the Panel in the said ruling, the administrative offence contested was found to be non-existent”.
This is what a note from Romeo Gestioni reports. “As a consequence, – the note continues – the Court has ordered the immediate return to the company of the entire sum of approximately 3 million euros paid in 2017 by decision of the GIP of the Court of Rome”.
