” Almost two years after the reopening of the Villa Floridiana park, which reopened on 21 April 2021, from a new inspection carried out in Floridian Villa it was found that little or nothing has changed.
Walking along the avenues, one continues to observe the presence of numerous barriers that limit access to a good part of the areas of the Bourbon park, compared to the little greenery present in the few available areas.
Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori, has intervened once again in the matter. He has taken the field several times, even with the creation of a page on the social network Facebook, which has over 3.100 members and with the launch of an online petition on the platform change.org, in order to restore full usability of the Bourbon park, within which the Duca di Martina museum of decorative arts is also located.
“Unfortunately, the complaints about the state of degradation and abandonment in which the Villa Floridiana in Vomero has been for some time have been a tired ritual for years that has had no operational effect – underlines Capodanno -. Even in the past, faced with the justified protests of citizens, the only response seemed to be to have to close the public park indefinitely, due to the lack of funds to allocate to management and ordinary maintenance”.
“The Villa Floridiana unfortunately pays the heavy price of being legally considered a historic garden annexed to the Duca di Martina museum – continues Capodanno -. From this it follows that the management is entrusted to the regional directorate of museums Campania, a peripheral institute of the ministry of culture, whereas instead this property owned by the state since 1917 should be separated from the museum area, as we have been proposing for some time”.
“Moreover, the ancient Bourbon park represents, even if currently only on paper, a large cultural container – says Capodanno -. Just think of the wonderful Teatrino di Verzura, built by Niccolini in 1817, which, especially during the summer months, could be used for outdoor shows also considering the fact that, on the occasion of the 90 World Cup, the villa was equipped with a lighting system to allow it to be opened in the evening hours as well. Furthermore, inside the park, there are a series of buildings, some of which are currently unused, which could be used as playrooms for children and rooms available to the elderly”.
On the Floridiana events, Capodanno, who, in the meantime, has announced a series of initiatives to raise awareness among citizens and institutions for the solution of the long-standing problems of the villa, launches yet another appeal to the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano and to the competent offices of the regional directorate of museums of Campania, so that they take action to solve the numerous problems that have long afflicted the Vomero villa, with particular reference to the use of additional funds allocated or to be allocated for the redevelopment of the entire park and for its full restitution to the numerous visitors.
