“Death that reopens a wound that Naples cannot heal”
“The death of the homeless man of presumed North African origins, struck down by the cold right next to his makeshift bed in Piazza Enrico De Nicola, dramatically reopens a wound that the city is unable to heal: that of assistance to those forced to live on the streets”, says Gaeta.
“At the beginning of each winter season we should be ready to implement Cold Weather Plans that are adequate for the needs of a highly complex territory such as that of Napoli. Instead this does not happen and we always chase the emergency, until the irreparable happens”, goes on.
“A delicate issue, it is not just a question of economic resources”
“During my recent meeting with the mayor, Gaetano Manfredi, we also talked about this very delicate topic. I also asked the administration for data on the real availability of places to accommodate the homeless. I am still waiting for the numbers”, he claims.
“It's not just a question of economic resources – continued Councilor Gaeta – but of a lack of coordination between the Municipality and the associations in assisting the weakest in addition to the lack of planning of adequate interventions, starting from what has already been achieved and ensuring its continuity".
