The memorandum of understanding between the Municipality of Portici and the Autonomous Volturno Authority for the construction of the covering of the Circumvesuviana trench of the local Circumvesuviana station was signed this morning.
The act was signed at the Town Hall by Mayor Enzo Cuomo and EaV President Umberto De Gregorio. The Municipality of Portici, within the scope of the Cis Vesuvio Pompei Napoli signed in June 2022, obtained funding, under the Development and Cohesion Fund 2014 - 2020, to build the covering of the trench of the EaV line that crosses its territory and at the same time proceed with the redevelopment of that part of the territory concerned with interventions relating to parking and surface street furniture.
The intervention consists in the construction of a railway trench with coverage of the Circumvesuviana route, thus creating parking areas and green spaces. The Cis finances the first lot of this intervention with a financial endowment of 15 million euros. “It will be the responsibility of the Municipality of Portici – as stated in a note from EaV – to proceed with the recovery of any additional resources for the completion of the intervention”.
The municipal administration asked EaV to assume the role of contracting authority for the intervention and to carry out all activities following the awarding of the contract and connected to the actual implementation of the works and their completion.
This request for EaV is consistent with its responsibility as manager of the railway infrastructure in question and connected to avoiding any interference with the regularity and safety of railway operations.
The intervention, for which it will be necessary to immediately proceed with the planning of the same, for EaV is “functional and consistent with the set of ongoing interventions that the company has started, because it allows for the reconnection of pieces of territory, currently interrupted by the railway line, and to give these areas new urban functions”.
