The new series of works for the rooms of the 700th century wing has begun.
The restoration of the doors of the Royal Apartments has resumed at the Royal Palace of Caserta. After similar interventions carried out in the 800th century wing of the Royal Palace, work will begin today in the series of rooms in the 700th century wing. The Halls of the Seasons and the Studiolo of Ferdinand IV will not be open to visitors until the restorers have completed their work.
The tour route will be diverted to the back rooms of the Crown Princes' Apartment. The doors are architectural elements of great historical and aesthetic value. They are a decorative complement to the spaces together with the stuccos, the precious frescoes of the vaults, the lambrequins on the walls, the painted terracotta floors, the marble fireplaces and the fine furnishings.
The passage from one room to another of the Royal Palace could certainly not take place through common passages; the doors being restored are of monumental dimensions, have a height of about 4 meters and a width of about two meters, are decorated with square and rectangular panels enriched with strips finished with gilding and the threshold has moldings in gray marble from Mondragone. The work will allow the consolidation and recovery of the doors, also restoring the original gold leaf gilding.
The intervention is financed with ordinary funds of the Royal Palace of Caserta. The Royal Palace is thus confirmed as a construction site in continuous movement. Last December, the Council Hall, the 800th century back rooms, the Cradle Room, the antechamber and the Chapel of Pius IX, the Bedroom and antechambers of Gioacchino Murat, the Bedroom and antechambers of Francesco were returned to museum use. The interventions involved doors and hatches, the terracotta floors painted to look like fake marble and the furnishings. Among these, the majestic beds of Francesco II and Gioacchino Murat.
Furthermore, restoration works are underway on the decorative decoration of the Throne Room (the works in the Astrea and Mars Rooms have just been completed).
