This morning in Naples, the Carabinieri of the Company of Sorrento they executed a house arrest warrant with an electronic bracelet against a 44-year-old Neapolitan.
The order was issued by the Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Court of Torre Annunziata, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, in relation to a case of aggravated fraud against an elderly victim, as well as the improper use of a debit card registered in the name of the injured party.
The investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Station of Vico Equense, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, revealed that on July 25, 2023, the arrested 44-year-old, in collaboration with individuals not yet identified, defrauded an eighty-year-old woman from Vico Equense.
Using trickery and deception, he would have convinced the victim to hand over the ATM card and reveal the PIN. Subsequently, with the same card, he would have withdrawn 1000 euros from an ATM of a local bank.
The elderly woman had been contacted by telephone by one of the accomplices, who had falsely introduced himself as her son-in-law. The latter had asked the victim to give him a sum of money as compensation for the purchase of a gift.
When the victim stated that he had no cash, the scammer, in order to prevent him from alerting other family members, kept the phone line busy until the person arrived, pretending to be a courier.

The woman, misled, handed over the ATM card, which was then used to illegally withdraw 1000 euros. The investigations, based on the analysis of video surveillance images and targeted investigative activities, led to the identification with high probability of the 44-year-old as one of the perpetrators of the scam.
After the formal procedures, the arrested person was placed under house arrest at his home.
