Genoa's response was immediate: Retegui's header forced Meret to dive and save. The match was heated and the Azzurri returned to being dangerous.
Anguissa from outside forces Martinez to save again, diving. And in the 28th minute Meret repeats his feat on a second header from Retegui, again served by Martin from the left: another save to keep his goal intact.

Nightmare start to the second half for the Azzurri: after just 2 minutes a run by Messias catches the midfield unprepared, ball in the center and Natan anticipates Retegui; however, the ball ends up in tow for Frendrup who opens the left plate and leaves no chance to Meret for the 0-1 that breaks the deadlock. After a chance for Politano on a free kick, Di Lorenzo gets a yellow card: cautioned, he will miss the Cagliari match.
At 57′ a chance for Kvara, who skips past a defender and crosses low to the center: Simeone misses the shot, Politano collects it and has his shot blocked by Vazquez. Mazzarri then chooses to change: Lindstrom and Ngonge come on.
The story doesn't change, the Azzurri are not very dangerous and with Genoa closed in the back the opportunities are scarce. A chance comes from a corner: Anguissa rises to the top of Kvaratskhelia's cross but the ball goes just over the crossbar.

Ngonge equalizes, Napoli and Genoa end 1-1
After a long-range shot by Kvara blocked by Martinez, the liberating goal came in the 90th minute. Ngonge scored again, like against Verona two weeks ago: a cross from the left, Di Lorenzo headed it in and the former Verona player found a nice turn that beat Martinez to make it 1-1.
The final assault does not lead to the new turnaround goal, as happened against Salernitana and Verona. Lindstrom's free kick in the 95th minute ends up on the wall and the last ball forward is prey to the Grifone defense.
