Today, during an operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Operational Nucleus of the Rome Trastevere Company, six men originally from the province of Naples were arrested for the crime of aggravated fraud in conjunction with the detriment of an elderly person in Rome.
and investigations have allowed to dismantle a criminal network specialized in scams against the elderly, which operated between Naples and the Capital. The investigative activity led to the arrest of a man involved in a similar scam that took place in Pigneto, who provided valuable information to trace the operations center in Naples from which the calls to the victims were made.
Thanks to the search authorized by the Rome Prosecutor's Office, the telephone exchange in Casoria, in the province of Naples, used to contact and induce victims to deliver money and jewelry to alleged postal delegates, was identified.
During a control operation in Rome, the Carabinieri intercepted a suspicious car in the Tomba di Nerone neighborhood, driven by one of the arrested. The man was stopped while collecting money from an elderly victim of the scam.
At the same time, another team of Carabinieri raided the Casoria telephone exchange, arresting five more people involved in the criminal activity.
The operation validated arrests in both Rome and Naples and highlighted the involvement of a vast criminal network in carrying out scams against the elderly.
Investigations are still ongoing to verify any connections of the arrested with other similar criminal episodes. The active collaboration of the Carabinieri in the defense of the weaker sections of society is an important step forward in the fight against this type of crime.
