Chiara Tramontano, sister of Giulia stabbed to death by her partner Alessandro Impagnatiello in Senago on May 27, 2023, gave a touching testimony in court. In her deposition, Chiara never mentioned Alessandro's name, always calling him "the defendant".
She recounted the uncertainty of those months, the decision to abort, Giulia's difficulty in accepting the choice. "A girl from the South who is expecting a child is never alone," Chiara said, "we didn't understand how two salaries couldn't be enough to raise a child."
On the date of the alleged miscarriage, Alessandro changed his mind, saying he wanted the baby. “It was like throwing water on the fire,” Chiara said, “it brought a bit of peace to us family members too, we were ready to support them.”
However, the pregnancy was used by Alessandro as a “boomerang”, a way to avoid responsibilities. Chiara also spoke of a betrayal, confessed and then denied by Alessandro.
She described Giulia and Alessandro's relationship as “uncertain,” with frequent disagreements over work hours and living standards.
“Giulia was bored and he was often absent during the week and preferred to stay home on the weekends,” Chiara said. Despite the problems, Chiara was Giulia’s “sister and confidant” and loved her.
“I disagreed with her continuing to be with him,” Chiara said, “I thought he had cheated on her but she was in love.”
Even though Chiara didn't approve of the relationship, in May, during the last trip to Naples, "I saw her belly and realized I was becoming an aunt. I knew something was wrong, but I swore to myself that I would stop being the judge of that story and I would be by my sister's side."
Chiara's testimony is a heartbreaking portrait of a young woman struggling with a difficult relationship and the tragic loss of her sister.
