“Empoli's approach to the match was ferocious, while we were soft and timid. This way of taking the field for Napoli is inconceivable, but the responsibility is mine.
Evidently I was unable to convey the right motivations to the team."
Francesco Calzona, coach of the team, declared this Napoli, to Dazn microphones, after the 1-0 defeat against Empoli. “We are the team that scored the least in the first fifteen minutes. We have to get into the game earlier: in general, you can see that we never have the right approach to the match.
In the first half we were too fussy in possession of the ball, but we also sinned in the ferocity in regaining possession. In the second half we did a little better, but we never shot on goal: this means that we are a readable team".
Calzona then sincerely admitted Napoli's poor chances of qualifying for the Champions League: “If we don’t win matches, and even lose them, it’s difficult to aspire to certain goals. We have to honor the shirt and give more.”
Finally the Napoli coach said: “When I arrived I didn’t think I would find such a bad situation.
We all need to do more, because that's what our city deserves.
It's all my fault and that of the players and that's it: the club and the fans always support us. We have all the elements to do well.
I feel like apologizing to all Napoli fans: the protest is justified and we have to accept it."
