Barcelona refuses to accept defeat in the “Clasico” against Real Madrid and is preparing to ask for a replay of the match lost yesterday by 3-2. The decision was made following the controversial phantom goal by Lamine Yamal, an episode that could have changed the outcome of the match.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta stressed the gravity of the situation, calling the Yamal incident potentially decisive for the outcome of the match. The Catalan club has requested images and audio of the incident from the refereeing commission and has stated that it is ready to take the necessary actions to correct the error committed.
Laporta cited a precedent that occurred last December in Belgium, during Anderlecht-Genk, in which a similar situation led to a replay of the match. On that occasion, a VAR error caused the decision to replay the match, demonstrating that it is possible to correct refereeing errors when necessary.
Barcelona, if the VAR's error in not validating Yamal's goal is proven, intends to appeal to this precedent to obtain a replay of the match against Real Madrid. Laporta reiterated that VAR must be a tool to guarantee a fairer competition and that the club will do everything possible to ensure that this happens.
