Marco Fassone, a long-time manager, spoke during the program “Si Gonfia la Rete” hosted by Raffaele Auriemma on Radio Crc, offering an interesting view on the management of Napoli and on president Aurelio De Laurentiis: “The idea of a Napoli without managers? Saying that decisions are made with De Laurentiis is a bit of an exaggeration!
He always has the last word,” Fassone explained.
“When he entered the world of football, he was very distant from this environment, but over time he gained experience, supported by trusted managers such as Chiavelli and Formisano. He understood that football is his main source of success, dedicating more and more attention to it.”
Fassone stressed the importance of a good relationship between president, coach and sporting director, praising the work done by Giuntoli in Naples: “Creating a buffer between the exuberance of the president and the coach is essential.
Manna is a good choice, but the coach is still missing.”
Regarding Napoli's technical future, Fassone has clear ideas: “If I were De Laurentiis, even if he doesn’t need advice, I would do everything to have Gasperini. He would be perfect for a thousand characteristics.
There are other good coaches around, but Gasperini is the right profile for Napoli at this moment.”
Fassone also highlighted De Laurentiis' financial management, comparing it to that of American properties: “De Laurentiis is not a patron president who uses football for personal pleasure. He has always had an American mentality, attentive to budgets, with very few concessions.
This makes him very compatible with modern American ownership. It is possible that he will be partnered in the future, but for now I do not think he wants to be a partner with anyone else.”
