A theft in a jewelry store in Scampitella, in the province of Avellino, was thwarted thanks to the alarm system.
Last night, five armed and masked people tried to break into a shop on Via Città di Contra. After cutting and tearing down the shutter, the criminals attempted to break through the armored windows.
However, the alarm went off, forcing the robbers to flee on board an SUV shortly before the arrival of the Carabinieri patrols of the Ariano Irpino Company, alerted by a citizen via 112.
During their escape, the thieves threw three-pointed nails on the road, damaging one of the wheels of the Carabinieri “Gazzella” that was chasing them. This allowed the criminals to disappear.
Law enforcement has launched an investigation to identify those responsible and track down the SUV used in the getaway.
