A bull terrier betrayed the fugitive Francesco Abbinante, 25 year old regent of the clan of the same name Secondigliano. The Carabinieri of the Naples Stella company, supported by the Naples Investigative Unit and the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, tracked him down in Castel Volturno, in the province of Caserta.

It all started thanks to his dog, a bull terrier already known to the Carabinieri. Patrolling the streets of Castel Volturno, they recognized him and understood that the fugitive, who escaped the anti-Camorra blitz in December, was in the area.
The search focused on a small villa, where the dog had been spotted. For days there were no signs, until yesterday afternoon, when a person looked out the window: it was Abbinante. The Carabinieri recognized him in a few seconds and the blitz was immediate.
Abbinante, declared a fugitive after Epiphany, was arrested and transferred to the Neapolitan prison of Secondigliano. It is not the first time that love for animals has caught a fugitive: similar is the story of Luigi Cacciapuoti, arrested in August 2023. In that case too, a little dog directed investigators to the wanted man's hideout.
His cousin Francesco Abbinante, with the same name, was arrested in 2006 while following the boy who delivered pizzas.
The Abbinante clans were protagonists of the bloody feuds of Scampia, which caused hundreds of deaths. In 2006, another Francesco Abbinante, at the time 31 years old and a leading member of the clan, was arrested in a singular way: the Carabinieri, following the delivery boy who delivered 9 pizzas, discovered his hiding place. He was in an apartment in Marano di Napoli, hidden in the false bottom of a sofa.
