Milena Santirocco, the dance and fitness teacher from Lanciano who disappeared on April 28 and was found alive in Castel Volturno after six days of searching, wanted to kill herself.
The 54-year-old had voluntarily left home with the intention of committing suicide. She herself confessed it during yesterday's interrogation before the prosecutor of Lanciano, Silvia di Nunzio.
No kidnapping, therefore, as initially hypothesized and as she herself had told the officers at the Castel Volturno police station where she was found.
Milena explained to investigators the reasons for her actions: a difficult family and economic situation, aggravated by the death of her father, had created strong worries for her future.
After leaving her car in Torino di Sangro and sending a photo to her family among the cliffs, she walked dozens of kilometers. Then, with makeshift car rides, she arrived in Campania where she spent several days, even sleeping on the streets.
On Saturday she attempted to take her life by throwing herself into the waters of the Foce del Volturno Nature Reserve. Then, she asked for help in a bar in Castel Volturno, where she was later found.
Milena was examined in hospital and is now in a safe place.
