A 33-year-old worker, Giovanni Carpinelli, originally from Benevento, died in an accident at work that occurred in the “Erg 69” wind farm in the Ranchibilotto district of Salemi.
The man, an employee of the company “Ivpc service srl”, the group company of the president of Benevento football club, Oreste Vigorito, who worked as a subcontractor for mechanical assembly, fell into the void from a height of about 50 meters while working on pole number 3 of the wind farm. The impact was violent and the worker's body was recovered with difficulty by firefighters.
The latest accident at work in Sicily, after the Casteldaccia tragedy, has sparked outrage and grief among political and trade union forces. Once again, the victim is a worker from a subcontractor, raising doubts about safety in the workplace.
The reactions of the unions
The unions have expressed strong condemnation for the incident and have asked for clarification of the causes of the accident. They have also urged the competent authorities to strengthen controls and safety measures on work sites to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
Funerals of the victims of Casteldaccia
Meanwhile, today the funerals were held for three of the five workers who died last Monday in Casteldaccia during maintenance and sewer cleaning work. Again, they were workers from a subcontractor.
