A training exercise turned into tragedy this morning in Valtellina, where three young soldiers from the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza (Sagf) lost their lives after falling from a rock face.
The three Alpine troops, Luke Plans (32 years), Alessandro Pozzi (25 years) e Simone Giacomelli (22 years old), all originally from Valtellina, were travelling along the so-called “Asteroid Precipice” in the municipality of Val Masino, when a rocky spur suddenly gave way under the feet of one of them, dragging them all into the void for about 30 meters.
The Tragedy in Valtellina under the helpless gaze of colleagues

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, calling the three young people “heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty to help others.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also wanted to express her closeness to the families and the Corps of Guardia di Finanza.
