Naples.
Un inmate of the prison of Secondigliano was sentenced to one year in prison, in addition to the payment of legal costs, for having hidden a microcellular phone in his anus. The sentence was issued this morning by the Court of Napoli. The man, already detained, was arrested last Friday upon arrival at the Secondigliano prison. During the regular search, his behavior aroused the suspicions of the Penitentiary Police personnel who, with the help of the metal detector, discovered the cell phone hidden in his private parts. The phone was complete with SIM and charger.
“Once again the staff of the Secondigliano Penitentiary Police, in this case in the reception department, has demonstrated great professionalism, despite the obvious difficulties related to the lack of staff”, commented the Deputy Secretary General of Si.NAPPe., Luigi Vargas.
“The women and men of the Corps are engaged daily in combating the introduction of cell phones and drugs into prisons for adults and minors,” reiterated the Regional Secretary, Pasquale Gallo.
Despite the recent introduction into the Criminal Code of a specific crime for the illegal entry and possession of telephones in penitentiaries, with severe penalties ranging from 1 to 4 years, the phenomenon does not seem to be decreasing.
The Si.NAPPe. unions propose drastic solutions such as the screening of detention sections, cells and spaces used for detention, to prevent the use of mobile phones and smartphones by inmates.
