SS Juve Stabia has officially announced the permanent acquisition of defender Marco Varnier. The player, born in 1998, has signed a contract that will tie him to the club until June 30, 2025, with an option to renew. Born in Padua, Marco Varnier grew up as a footballer in the youth sector of Padova and Cittadella.
During his career he has also worn the jerseys of Atalanta, Pisa, Como, Spal and Atalanta U23. Varnier is a tall central defender, known for his ability in aerial duels thanks to his physicality. He has good vision of the game and timing in defensive interventions, as well as being good in the build-up and dribbling phase.
Marco Varnier began his career in Padova, the team of his hometown. After the bankruptcy of the white-blue club in 2014, he moved to the youth team of Cittadella. His debut in the first team took place on 10 December 2015, during a match of the round of XNUMX of the Coppa Italia Lega Pro against Bassano Virtus.
The following season, on 30 December 2016, he made his league debut in Serie B against Virtus Entella, immediately demonstrating his value and earning the trust of the Granata team. In the following season, Varnier became a regular starter and scored his first professional goal on 25 November 2017, against Salernitana. At the end of the season, he was elected best defender of Serie B.
On 2 July 2018, Varnier joined Atalanta on loan with an obligation to buy for €5 million. However, shortly after his arrival, he suffered a serious injury to his right knee that kept him out for the entire season. On 27 August 2019, he was loaned to Pisa in Serie B, but another injury to his left knee forced him to a long layoff. After recovering, he played 9 games until the end of the season.
On 10 September 2020, his loan to Pisa was renewed for another season. On 3 July 2021, Varnier moved to Como, again on loan, and on 2 July 2022 he went on loan to Spal. With the Estense team, he scored his first goal on 7 May 2023 in a 2-1 defeat against Palermo.
