An unexpected birth has highlighted the importance of an effective emergency room at the Capilupi hospital in Capri.
The story began when a 44-year-old woman from Sri Lanka went to the emergency room with severe pain. Immediate triage revealed that she was already in advanced labor.
The woman arrived around 9:00 in the morning, and her conditions, immediately monitored by the midwife on duty, confirmed that the dilation was already advanced and the membranes had ruptured, marking the beginning of labor.
In such circumstances, it is often preferable to transfer the patient to better equipped facilities, such as the hospitals in Naples.
However, in this case, a safe transfer was not possible. To protect the health of the mother and the baby, the doctors decided to proceed with the birth directly to Capri.
After hours of waiting and apprehension, at 15:00 p.m., the baby was born. The doctors, as a precaution, decided to transfer him to Naples in a facility with Neonatal Intensive Care, to ensure the highest level of care.
The child is currently safely hospitalized in Naples, under the careful surveillance of doctors, and fortunately, both he and his mother are doing well.
“Thanks to the professionalism of the staff who manage health emergencies on the Island of Capri, a potentially complex situation has been resolved, confirming the effectiveness of the work carried out in recent years,” said General Manager Ciro Verdoliva.
