Several citizens reported the incident to the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli after a video about it was also published by some Facebook users.
“After receiving the report, we contacted the hospital management and the ASL who confirmed it. It seems that due to the lack of public transport on the island, it was decided to use ambulances to allow medical personnel to arrive on time and not miss the ferries, given that many operators come to work in Capri from the mainland.
While I understand these legitimate reasons and have no prejudice whatsoever towards the hospital that handled the medical emergency during the tragedy of the bus that crashed in Marina Grande in an excellent manner, it cannot be tolerated that ambulances are used for purposes other than medical and emergency purposes.
For this reason, we have asked the hospital management, the ASL and the municipalities involved to set up a table to find suitable and practicable solutions that will enable medical personnel to reach their workstation without inconvenience and return home without taking away essential services for citizens and patients of the hospital.” - these are the words of Councilor Borrelli.
