The bans on disembarkation and circulation on the islands of Capri and Procida will come into force at the beginning of next week, with the aim of limiting the influx of vehicles during the summer season and preserving their liveability.
Article Key Points
For the first time, the measures are not signed by the Ministry of Transport but by the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, on behalf of the government. For Capri, the ban will start from Monday 1st April and will remain active until November 2, with a second window from December 22 to January 6, 2026.
During this period, the disembarkation and circulation of motor vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds not belonging to residents of the municipalities of Capri and Anacapri will be prohibited. The measure also concerns rental vehicles and those with foreign license plates. However, some exemptions are foreseen, including those for owners of homes on the island, law enforcement and emergency vehicles, vehicles for people with reduced mobility and vehicles registered to hotels. Furthermore, cars with foreign license plates driven by foreign citizens will be able to circulate.
Procida, stop to non-resident vehicles from 1st April to 30th October
A Procida, instead, the ban will come into force from Tuesday 1st April until 30th October and it will cover all vehicles belonging to non-residents, even if jointly held with a resident. Even in this case, there are some exceptions, including those for “sons of Procida”, or persons related by kinship within the second degree with residents for at least twenty years who require assistance, and for homeowners or tenants.
Anyone who violates the bans risks administrative sanctions that vary by 430 1.731 in euros. The full texts of the provisions are available on the website of the Campania region. The initiative, now consolidated over the years, aims to preserve the environmental balance and quality of life on the islands of the Gulf of Naples, increasingly under pressure due to the high number of visitors and vehicles in the summer months.

These bans are necessary but I don't know if they are right for everyone. People have the right to visit the islands, but it is true that there are too many cars. Let's hope this measure works well for the good of Capri and Procida.
I don't know if the bans will solve the traffic problem, because people might find other ways to go. We also have to think about the residents, who already suffer from too much crowding.
