NYesterday afternoon, under the presidency of the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety was held at the Municipality of Marano di Napoli.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor, Matteo Morra, representatives of the Police Forces, and the Commanders of the Metropolitan Police and the Local Police.
During the meeting, several issues related to the problems of the territory of Marano, with particular attention to the crime situation. The Prefect highlighted that the data relating to the first eight months of 2024 show a slight decrease in crime compared to the same period of the previous year.
The episode of September 14th was also discussed, characterized by extreme violence, in which a young man was killed, intentionally hit by a car for trivial reasons while he was on his scooter. Another passenger was injured. The person responsible, another young man, was arrested.
The Prefect has ordered a strengthening of surveillance and control services in the territory, with High Impact operations conducted in collaboration between the Police Force, Metropolitan Police and Local Police, especially in the evening hours and in nightlife areas.
Particular attention was paid to surveillance in the vicinity of schools, to prevent the introduction of weapons and drug trafficking, also with the help of canine units.
It was also agreed that it is necessary to integrate the activities of the Police Force with targeted social prevention interventions, aimed at studying the causes of crime and identifying adequate tools for social recovery, with a focus on young people.
Particular attention also to school dropout
Particular importance was given to combating school dropout and degradation, factors that fuel the recruitment of young people by criminals.
The Prefect reiterated the institutions' commitment not only on the repressive front, but also on the preventive one, aiming at the creation of a network between public and private entities in the social sector, to combat youth deviance and offer immediate and reassuring answers to citizens, highlighting the need to dismantle a Camorra-type mentality.
