In a new act of violence, unknown vandals have targeted the beating heart of Scampia, the “Giardino di Melissa”. During the night between Saturday and Sunday, the intruders entered the structure, unleashing a destructive fury that left citizens shocked.
Children's carousels torn apart, plants violently uprooted, walls smeared with paint and entrance doors broken down: this is the desolate scene that presented itself to the managers of the garden. A premeditated and violent action that struck at the heart of a place that is a symbol of rebirth and hope for the entire neighborhood.
MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli strongly condemned the incident, calling it “a vile and unacceptable act”. “It is necessary to clarify things as soon as possible and identify those responsible for this act of vandalism”, Borrelli declared, “Scampia does not deserve to be hurt in this way”.
The managers: “We will not be intimidated”
The garden managers, although deeply saddened, do not give up. “We will not be intimidated,” they declared, “We will continue to work to offer the children of Scampia a safe and happy space to grow up.”
The local community has come out to express their solidarity and ask for justice. Messages of condemnation and support for the garden managers are multiplying on social networks.
“The hooligan raid on the Giardino di Melissa is a cowardly and disturbing act that penalizes many children and families in the neighborhood to whom this facility offers the opportunity to spend a few hours of happiness, to have free parties, to socialize in a constructive and fun way.
Evidently someone is not happy with all this and decides to damage the structure in an attempt to assert the law of violence and arrogance on the territory. I hope that this episode will soon be shed light on by identifying those responsible and that solidarity will begin from the entire city in support of the Giardino di Melissa to repair the damage and start again stronger than before”. These are Borrelli's words.
