Naples. Gennaro Cimmino, choreographer and trainer, founder of the Centro Nazionale di Produzione della Danza Körper and the company of the same name, passed away after a short and ferocious illness. With him we lose a great artist but above all a good and generous traveling companion.
His indomitable curiosity for the new was welded with a tenacious attachment to the cultural roots of the land that had formed him. This trait, over the years, has shaped his activity as a choreographer and, more generally, the profile of an intellectual who was able to make Raffaele Viviani and the new wave of contemporary ballet, the archaic notes of Vesuvian music and the most disturbing frequencies of the digital universe, via Toledo and Karl-Marx-Allee, the Spanish Quarters and the Parisian Banlieues, dialogue.
The thousand influences that crossed his life have shaped the world that Gennaro had created with Körper, transforming a school into a small theater that was the heart of the national choreographic production center recognized by the Ministry of Culture, a dream pursued for years and then realized, as Körper Young, a totally free high-level training course for young people from Campania, which is the synthesis of his artistic and human values and which will continue thanks to his teaching: dance by everyone and for everyone.
From 10am on November 3rd the chapel of rest will be set up in Körper, via Vannella Gaetani, 27. At 17pm the funeral will be held in the Church of San Pasquale a Chiaia.
