On Friday 6 December, at 18 pm, in the council chamber of the Town Hall of Sorrento, there will be a presentation of a book and a video dedicated to the creation of an extraordinary vessel: a faithful reproduction of the boat used by the Apostle Peter.
This artifact, rich in symbolic and spiritual meaning, is the result of the craftsmanship of the Sorrento shipyard and was donated to Pope Francesco. The boat, built by the Antico Cantiere del Legno Aprea, was constructed using period techniques and tools, following the art of the master shipwrights of the Sorrento peninsula. It is a faithful reproduction of the Navicella di Pietro, discovered in 1986 on the bottom of Lake Tiberias and today kept in the Yigal Allon museum in Ginosar, in Galilee.
“The idea was born from Maurizio and Bruno Aponte, members of a family that brought the name of Sorrento to the seas of the whole world”, explains Louis Di Prisco, president of the municipal council. “Today, the Barque of Peter, defined by the Holy Father as 'the boat of all', welcomes pilgrims and tourists at the entrance to the Vatican Museums.

This book and video presentation on Peter's boat seems to be a very interesting event. It's nice to see how the artisan tradition is kept alive today. I didn't know there was such an important reproduction in Sorrento.
