Four symbols that encapsulate Naples' cultural heritage: the sea represented by the siren Parthenope, the legend of Virgil, and the arch as a window to the world. These are the elements that Rita Zunno, aka "Kinky," used to create the official logo to celebrate the 2.500th anniversary of the founding of Naples. Zunno, a graphic designer from Campania born in 1986, won an international design competition that drew 261 entries from Italy, other European countries, Mexico, and Iran.
The artist transformed the numbers 2.500 into symbols, making them an integral part of the logo, alongside a hashtag. The chosen colors reflect those of the Samnite coat of arms of the City of Naples: gold, rendered in "Naples yellow," and red, both slightly revisited. The Montserrat Alternates font was used for the name, inspired by posters, signs, and glass paintings from the first half of the XNUMXth century.
The logo was previewed this morning during a press conference in the council chamber of Palazzo San Giacomo, in the presence of the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, the councilor for tourism Teresa Armato, the artistic director of the celebrations Laura Valente and Rita Zunno herself.
"This logo, in its simplicity, intelligently narrates the history and symbols of Naples," Manfredi said. "The 2.500th anniversary represents a significant anniversary, a moment to celebrate the city's cultural stratification and look to the future with new perspectives. We are working with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture to organize a major program of events that will enliven Naples next year."

Manfredi: "Naples is now a global city."
"I love this logo," Armato commented. "It captures the essence of our wonderful city. I'm thrilled that the winner is a young woman from our area who took a chance on her talent and chose to stay here, earning the recognition she deserves."
"I followed my intuition," Zunno explained. "The number 2.500 has transformed into symbols that tell the story of Naples, offering multiple levels of interpretation."
Finally, Valente announced that the full program of celebrations, which will extend through 2025, will be unveiled in January. "Today, in addition to unveiling the logo exactly one year after the symbolic anniversary of December 21, 2025, we are also announcing a call for proposals for the Naples Fringe Fest, dedicated to independent companies. It's a project we want to leave as a legacy beyond 2025."
