Four symbols that encapsulate the cultural heritage of Naples: the sea represented by the siren Partenope, the legend of Virgil, and the arch as an emblem of a window onto the world. It is with these elements that Rita Zunno, aka “Kinky”, has created the official logo to celebrate the 2.500th anniversary of the foundation of Naples. Zunno, a graphic designer from Campania born in 1986, won an international ideas competition in which 261 candidates from Italy, other European countries, Mexico and Iran participated.
The artist transformed the numbers of 2.500 into symbols, making them an integral part of the logo, flanked by a hashtag. The colors chosen are those of the Samnite coat of arms of the Municipality of Naples: gold, declined in "Naples yellow", and red, both slightly revisited. The Montserrat Alternates font was used for the naming, inspired by posters, signs and glass paintings from the first half of the XNUMXth century.
The logo was previewed this morning during a press conference in the council chamber of Palazzo San Giacomo, in the presence of the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, the councilor for tourism Teresa Armato, the artistic director of the celebrations Laura Valente and Rita Zunno herself.
"This logo, in its simplicity, intelligently tells the story and symbols of Naples," said Manfredi. "The 2.500 years represent a significant anniversary, a moment to celebrate the cultural stratification of the city and look to the future with new perspectives. We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture to organize a great program of events that will enliven Naples next year."
“I love this logo,” Armato commented. “It is capable of evoking the essence of our wonderful city. I am happy that the winner is a young woman from our area who has bet on her talent and chosen to stay here, obtaining the recognition she deserves.”
“I followed my intuition,” Zunno explained. “The number 2.500 has transformed into symbols that tell the story of Naples, offering multiple levels of interpretation.”
Finally, Valente announced that the full program of celebrations will be revealed in January, which will extend throughout 2025. “Today, in addition to presenting the logo exactly one year after the symbolic birthday of December 21, 2025, we are also announcing a call for the Fringe Fest in Naples, dedicated to independent companies. A project that we want to leave as a legacy beyond 2025.”
