The Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) has cracked down heavily on the Moscarella clan in Castellammare, led by boss Michele Onorato, known as 'o Pimuntense: the prosecutor's office has requested total sentences of just over 75 years in prison.
These are strong requests given that the trial is being held with the abbreviated rite. They are all accused of extortion against numerous merchants and entrepreneurs in the area north of Castellammare which borders Pompei and Santa Maria la Carità.
In addition to Michele Onorato and his son Silverio, those on trial include his wife Carmela Zurlo, his daughter Maria Onorato (who is under house arrest), Salvatore Scotognella, Pasquale Palma, Renato Avitabile, Luciano Polito, Giuseppina Concilio, and Michele Santarpia.
The trial was postponed to February 20, 2025 for the defense's arguments and will continue on March 12. At the end of October the trial was cancelled due to legitimate impediment due to the boss's illness.
The defense team includes lawyers Gennaro De Gennaro who defends three members of the Onorato family and then Giuliano Sorrentino, Michele Torrente, Olga Coda, Renato D'Antuono and Michele Morelli.
These are the requests for condemnation
Michele Onorato sentenced to 12 years in prison and a 12 euro fine.
Salvatore Scotognella sentenced to 10 years in prison and a €6 fine.
Pasquale Palma: 6 years and 9 months in prison and a 6 euro fine
Carmela Zurlo: 6 years and a 6 euro fine
Silverio Onorato: 10 years and a 6 euro fine
Renato Avitabile: 6 years and a 6 euro fine
Luciano Polito: 7 years and a 6 euro fine
Giuseppina Concilio 8 years old
Michele Santarpia: 6 years and 6 months and a 6 euro fine
Maria Onorato sentenced to 4 years and a fine of 8 euros.
The trial was adjourned to February 20, 2025 for defense arguments and will continue on March 12.
