Perugia – Two men, a 40-year-old and a 47-year-old of Neapolitan origin, were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Operations Section of the Perugia Company for a joint fraud against an 80-year-old woman.

The two criminals, pretending to be members of the police, contacted the elderly woman by telephone, falsely informing her that her son had hit a cyclist and that to avoid serious legal consequences, immediate payment was necessary. In the meantime, they managed to trick the elderly woman's husband into leaving, telling him that he had to go to the hospital.

Taking advantage of the victim's temporary solitude, the scammers showed up at the woman's house and, continuing to pretend to be law enforcement, convinced her to hand over all the gold in her possession, along with a sum of cash. The timely intervention of the Carabinieri, triggered by a citizen's report of a suspicious car to the Operations Center of the Provincial Command, led to the arrest of the two men.

The criminals, who in the meantime were trying to escape, were intercepted and stopped by the Carabinieri of the Operations Section with the help of their colleagues from the Radiomobile Unit. All the gold jewellery stolen from the elderly woman was recovered and returned to the victim. The arrest was validated by the preliminary investigations judge (GIP) of the Court of Perugia, which ordered the precautionary measure of house arrest for the two suspects.
