The Ferrovie dello Stato Group, through FS Security, launched the 'Safer Christmas' operation from November 25 to December 25, aiming to ensure the safety of passengers and workers. A total of 250 FS Security members guarded 24 railway lines considered most at risk, including Milan-Verona, Milan-Genoa, and Rome-Nettuno.
Issues encountered during the operation included on-board theft, fare evasion, high turnout, assaults on staff and dangerous behaviour, particularly by youth groups. In addition, the presence of outsiders along the railway lines was reported.
The action plan allowed monitoring approximately 14 trains and 363 stations. FS Security staff were present on 3.140 trains and over 10.500 were subject to checks before boarding. The data shows a significant increase in security, with a +99% protection of assets and +21% of passengers checked between January and December 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year.

FS Security's initiative is interesting, but I hope they can solve the problems with theft and assault. It is important that passengers feel safe while traveling. Security must be a priority.
