Naples – A joint operation by the Carabinieri of the Naples provincial command and Enel technicians has brought to light a large case of electricity theft in the heart of Neapolitan nightlife.
Two well-known clubs in the neighborhood ended up in the crosshairs Chiaia: the Terrazza Calabritto restaurant in Piazza Vittoria and the Caffè la Nuit in via Nazario Sauro.
The checks, carried out on the eve of Valentine's Day, revealed serious irregularities in the energy measurement systems. According to Enel technicians, the meters had been tampered with, reducing recorded consumption by up to 72% for the restaurant and 67% for the bar.
Following the checks, the owners of the two commercial establishments were reported for electricity theft, a crime that carries a prison sentence of two to six years and a fine of between 927 and 1.500 euros.
The reactions: “We were not aware of the irregularities”
Vincenzo Politelli, a well-known Neapolitan entrepreneur and owner of Terrazza Calabritto, released a statement to The morning: “Only after the check did we discover the problem with the meter. We have always passed every check without difficulty, this story saddens us. A place like Terrazza Calabritto certainly does not need to save on energy”.
Politelli also confirmed that he had entrusted the matter to the lawyer Lelio Della Pietra, reiterating his full confidence in the judiciary: “There is an ongoing procedure, we respect the work of the authorities”.
The operation is part of a plan of intensified checks arranged specifically for Valentine's Day, one of the busiest nights for restaurants and night clubs.

I think this situation is very strange and also a bit alarming. How is it possible that no one noticed these problems with the meters before? Restaurants should be more careful about these things and do more frequent checks.
