Castellammare – A 49-year-old criminal, identified as AA and resident of Torre Annunziata, was arrested in flagrante delicto by the State Police on charges of aggravated theft.
The man was caught while trying to break into the automatic cash machines at the Castellammare di Stabia motorway toll booth, located on the A3 Salerno-Pompei-Naples.
The intervention of the Angri Highway Police officers was triggered following a report received by the Naples Highway Police Operations Center, which indicated a theft in progress at the self-service toll booths.
Arriving immediately on site, the patrol identified an individual whose features corresponded to the description provided, still intent on tampering with one of the self-service machines.
At the sight of the police, the man attempted a desperate escape, quickly crossing the lanes reserved for Telepass. However, his run was short: the officers promptly chased him and stopped him a short distance away.
During the subsequent personal search, the 49-year-old was found in possession of burglary tools, including a screwdriver and several metal rods, presumably used to force the mechanisms of the cash registers and withdraw the money. Coins recently removed from the toll booths were also found on him.
Considering the flagrant nature of the crime and the man's criminal record, he was immediately arrested for aggravated theft. AA was then taken to the holding cells to await the summary trial, during which he will have to answer for his actions before the judicial authorities.
The episode highlights once again the attention of the police in contrasting predatory crimes along road infrastructures.
