Lima (Peru) / Naples – After years on the run, Massimiliano Amato, known as o' bandito, former leader of the Fedayn ultras group, one of the 100 most dangerous wanted men in Italy, was arrested in Lima by the Carabinieri of the Naples Investigative Unit, in collaboration with the Peruvian Police.
Article Key Points
The man, definitively sentenced to 9 years and 4 months for criminal association and international cocaine trafficking, had been on the run since 2013, immediately after being released from prison awaiting trial.
The key role in the criminal organization
Amato, considered the right-hand man of the boss Giuseppe Sabatino, managed contacts with drug traffickers in Spain and organized the importation of over 50 kg of cocaine into Italy, by land, sea and air. His network supplied the Neapolitan market, where the drugs were then distributed to retail.
The escape and capture after 11 years
Despite the irrevocable sentence of 2022, Amato had managed to disappear into thin air. The investigations, coordinated by the Attorney General of Naples, led to his location in Peru, thanks to the collaboration between the Carabinieri and the International Police Cooperation Service.
He now awaits extradition to Italy, where he will serve his sentence. Another blow to drug trafficking organizations operating between Europe and South America.
