A walk along the breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast turned tragic. A 68-year-old American tourist, originally from California, died this morning after being struck by a sudden illness along the famous Path of the Gods that overlooks the Gulf of Salerno from the Agerola Mountains.
The woman was near the so-called “tile 5” when she collapsed to the ground in front of her hiking companions, who immediately raised the alarm.
The technicians of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) and the 118 Naples helicopter rescue intervened on site. The medical team, lowered by winch from the helicopter, attempted resuscitation maneuvers for a long time, but there was nothing to be done for the hiker.
Rescued by Cnas experts, she was found already lifeless
The woman's body was later recovered and transported to Nuts of Positano with a stretcher, thanks to a joint intervention of the Alpine Rescue and the Guardia di Finanza of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi. After the ritual authorizations, the body was transferred for the required checks.
The episode refocuses attention on the importance of prevention and medical checks for those who undertake trekking routes, even those of medium difficulty, in mountain areas.
